Doug Bruce is an American businessman and politician. He has written laws that help make Colorado government run more efficiently and has worked with many organizations to help build stronger Colorado communities. He was a member of the Colorado House of Representatives from 1983 to 1988 and a member of the Colorado Senate from 1988 to 2003. He also ran for State Treasurer and Governor of Colorado in 1994 and 1998, respectively, but he wasn't successful. In 2005, Doug Bruce wrote the Taxpayer's Bill of Rights, which is a law that limits how much money the government can spend and all taxes must be approved by voters before they can be implemented. Doug Bruce also founded the Douglas Bruce Foundation, which works to improve schools and support kids in Colorado. He is one of the most successful public policy innovators in the state's history.
