ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Drift diving

Okay kiddo, have you ever been to the beach and seen how the waves move and push you around in the water? Well, sometimes when people go diving in the ocean they let the current (that's like the waves but bigger) push them around too. It's called drift diving!

When you go on a drift dive, you don't swim against the current because that would be too tiring. Instead, you let the current carry you along. You wear special gear, called a drift line, that keeps you connected to your dive boat. That way, the boat can follow you along and pick you up when you're done diving.

Drift diving can be really cool because you get to see a lot more underwater things than if you were just swimming in one spot. You might see different kinds of fish, plants, and even different types of terrain on the ocean floor. It's like a moving adventure!

But, like all scuba diving adventures, you have to be careful and know what you're doing. You have to be trained to use the right gear and understand the risks that come with drifting in the current. But, if you're a brave little diver, it can be a lot of fun!
