ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Driving

Driving is when you sit in a car, truck or any vehicle and use different parts of your body to control the vehicle to move from one place to another.

To drive a car, you sit in the driver seat and buckle up your seat belt. You use your feet to press the pedal on the floor. There are three pedals on the floor, the brake pedal is used to slow down or stop the car, the accelerator pedal is used to make the car go faster, and the clutch pedal is used to change gears (manual transmission vehicles only).

You use your hands to hold the steering wheel, which is what helps you to turn the car left, right or to keep it going straight. The gear shift lever (for manual transmission vehicles only) is also controlled by your hand.

You also need to use signals to let other drivers and pedestrians know what you are doing. When you want to turn left or right, you use the turn signal. If you want to stop, put on your break lights to let others know you’re slowing down.

It’s also important to pay attention while you are driving. You need to watch for road signs, other cars, pedestrians, and anything else that might be in your way.

To be a safe driver, you should always follow the speed limit, wear your seat belt, stay focused on the road and avoid anything that would distract you like using your phone or eating while driving.

Driving can be a lot of fun, but it’s important to remember that it's also a big responsibility. So always be safe and responsible when you're behind the wheel.
