Drug of last resort

A drug of last resort is like a superhero medicine! Just like superheroes save the day when no one else can, a drug of last resort is used when all other medicines have been tried and nothing else is working. It's usually only used when someone is very sick and needs something really strong to help them get better.

Think about it like a puzzle. When someone is sick, doctors start by using regular medicines to try and help them feel better. But if those medicines don't work, they might try other ones or a combination of medicines to see what works best. If all of those things have been tried and nothing has worked, the doctors might turn to a drug of last resort.

These drugs are often very strong, and can have lots of side effects. Just like how superheroes can sometimes cause damage when they save the day, drugs of last resort can sometimes be bad for a person's health. But when someone is really sick, it can be worth it to use this type of medicine, because it might just save their life!
