ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Dry ice

Dry ice is a special kind of solid frozen carbon dioxide. It's a bit like regular ice cubes, but much colder and much different. Dry ice looks like regular ice, but it's much colder - about -109.3°F. This means that dry ice can be very dangerous to touch, since it can burn your skin. It also looks really cool because when it starts to melt, it turns straight into a gas, called carbon dioxide gas. It doesn't melt into a liquid like regular ice does. What's even cooler is that the carbon dioxide gas created is heavier than regular air, so it sinks and forms a fog at the bottom of the bucket or container it's in. That's why it's often used at Halloween and other special events to make a spooky fog!
