Drying is when you take something that is wet or damp and make it dry. It is like when you get out of the bath and your mommy or daddy uses a towel to dry you off. Drying happens all around us, like when the sun dries your clothes that are hanging on the line or when you use a hairdryer to dry your hair after a shower.
When something is wet, it is because it has water in it. Water can be in the form of liquid or vapor (like steam). When we dry something, we want to get rid of the liquid water or water vapor so that whatever we are drying is no longer wet.
Different things can be dried in different ways. For example, when you dry your clothes after washing them, you put them in a dryer that uses hot air to evaporate the water in the clothes. That's why the air coming out of the dryer vent feels so warm!
On the other hand, when we dry fruits, vegetables or flowers, we use the power of the sun to do it. We place them on a tray under the sun and the heat from the sun warms them up and slowly evaporates the moisture in them until they get dry.
In summary, when we dry something, we get rid of the water that makes it wet so that it can be used or stored in a dry state. We use machines, heat, air, and even the sun to do this!
