ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Dua Allahumma kun li-waliyyik

Okay, so you know how sometimes we have special people in our lives like our parents or teachers who take care of us and protect us? Well, in Islam, we have special people like that too, called Imams.

Now, dua Allahumma kun li-waliyyik is a prayer we say to ask Allah to make one of those special people, an Imam, our protector and guide. It's like asking Allah to make that person our big brother or sister and help us be good Muslims.

We say this prayer because we want to make sure we always have someone to look up to and ask for advice on how to be the best Muslims we can be. And by asking Allah to make that person our waliyy (another word for protector and guide), we know that we're asking for the best possible help and support to stay on the right path in life.
