ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Dubbing (music)

Have you ever watched a movie or TV show that was made in a different language? Sometimes we want to watch something that isn't in our language, but we still want to understand what the characters are saying. That's where dubbing comes in!

Dubbing is like a magic trick. When a movie or TV show is made in one language, like Spanish or Japanese, dubbing can make it seem like the actors are actually speaking our language, like English. Dubbing works by recording new voices saying the same lines as the actors on-screen, but in a different language.

It's like drawing new pictures over an original drawing - the original picture is still there, but now it looks different. Dubbing makes it possible for people who don't speak the same language as the actors to enjoy the movie or TV show just like everyone else.

Dubbing is used not only in movies and TV shows, but also in music. When a song is dubbed, it means that the original song was recorded in one language and a new version was made with the same melody but different lyrics in another language. So, if you hear your favorite song in Spanish but you speak English, you might hear a dubbed version of that same song in English.

Dubbing helps us to understand, enjoy and appreciate different languages and cultures all over the world!
