Dulles' Plan was a foreign policy proposal made by the U.S. Secretary of State, John Foster Dulles, in 1957. It was designed to keep communism from taking over countries in the Middle East, Southeast Asia and Eastern Europe. Dulles proposed four main ideas to carry out the plan. He wanted the U.S. to strengthen their military power in the region, sign defense treaties with other countries, give financial and military aid to countries that wanted it, and take a more cooperative role in the United Nations. The goal of the plan was to create a "shield" against the spread of communism and prevent it from taking over countries in the area.
