Once upon a time, some grown-ups in Dunedin (a city in New Zealand) wanted to learn about people's health and how they grow up. So, they found some babies that were born in the city between 1972 and 1973, and they asked the babies' parents if they could be part of the study.
These grown-ups did not stop there. They kept following these babies as they grew up, and they asked them many questions about their health, their education, and their families. They even did some fun tests with them, like asking them to run fast or solve puzzles!
As the babies grew into adults, these grown-ups knew a lot about their health and how they were doing in life. They learned about the things that helped the people stay healthy and happy, such as exercising and eating healthy foods. They also found out about the things that might make people sick, like smoking or drinking alcohol.
Now, the grown-ups share what they learned with other grown-ups. They tell them how important it is to take good care of your body and your mind. They teach them how to keep healthy and happy, just like the people they followed for many years in their Dunedin Multidisciplinary Health and Development Study.
