Dutch loanwords in Sinhala

Okay kiddo, so you know how sometimes words from one language get used in another language? Well, that's called a loanword! And a long time ago, people from the Netherlands came to Sri Lanka and they brought some Dutch words with them.

Now, when they talked to the Sinhalese people, they used these Dutch words and over time, some of these words became part of the Sinhala language. So, now when Sinhalese people talk, they might use words like "pistol" or "lampuwa" which actually come from Dutch!

So even though Sri Lanka is very far away from the Netherlands, sometimes words can travel a long way and become part of a new language! Cool, right?
