ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Dutch uncle

Okay kiddo, so a Dutch Uncle is a person who gives you advice or guidance. But unlike a normal uncle who might be all fun and games, a Dutch Uncle is really serious and strict.

Think of it like this, imagine you're playing with your toys and your regular uncle comes by and plays with you too. He's nice and easy going, right?

But now, imagine you're doing something wrong, like stealing cookies from the cookie jar. Your regular uncle might just laugh it off and tell you not to do it again.

But a Dutch Uncle would be different. He wouldn't laugh or tell you it's okay. Instead, he would be very stern and serious, and tell you that what you're doing is not right and you need to stop.

So basically, a Dutch Uncle is someone who gives you tough love and tells you what you need to hear, even if it's not what you want to hear. It might be hard to hear, but it's for your own good in the long run.
