Early Anatolian Animal carpets

When people first started weaving carpets a long, long time ago in a place called Anatolia, they used pictures of animals to make their carpets look pretty. They would take wool, which comes from hairy animal friends like sheep or goats, and use it to make threads. Then they would use those threads to weave the pictures of animals into the carpet.

Some animals that they liked to use were camels, deer, and even lions! They would make sure to make the animals look real so that it would be easy to tell what they were. Everyone liked these animal carpets so much that they even started taking them from Anatolia to other places around the world.

These carpets were really special because they were made by hand, which meant that it could take weeks or even months to finish making just one carpet. Because it took so long to make, only rich and important people could afford to buy them.

Today, we still really like these early Anatolian animal carpets. Some people even collect them and keep them in museums so that everyone can enjoy their beauty!
