East Turkestan independence movement

The East Turkestan independence movement is about people from a place called East Turkestan wanting to be independent. East Turkestan is a place in Central Asia. It has been part of China for a long time, but the people who live there aren't Chinese – they are from a different ethnic and cultural group.

These people want to be independent from China, so that they can decide their own laws and be in charge of their own future. They think that they should have their own country, ruled by themselves - not by China.

For a long time, they have been trying to get other countries to support them and help make East Turkestan an independent country. But China doesn't want them to be independent – they want East Turkestan to stay part of China. So the East Turkestan independence movement is stuck in a difficult situation.
