Eastern blot

Okay kiddo, have you ever seen a picture of different kinds of food arranged on a plate? Each food has its own spot on the plate, right?

Well, scientists have a way of making pictures of different kinds of proteins (which are a type of molecule in our bodies that do important jobs, like building and repairing things) arranged in the same way.

To do this, they use a technique called Eastern Blot. First, they get a sample of the different proteins they want to study. They put them in a special gel that separates the proteins based on how big they are. It's like sorting them by size, just like how you might sort toys by how big they are!

Next, they transfer the separated proteins from the gel onto a special paper that soaks up the proteins in the same order that they were originally sorted. It's like placing each toy in its own spot on the plate.

Then, they add special dyes that stick to the different proteins, creating colorful spots on the paper, just like how the food on the plate would have different colors. They can use these spots to see how much of each protein is in the sample they tested.

So that's how scientists use an Eastern Blot to create pictures of different proteins in a sample, just like a plate of food with each food in its own spot. Pretty neat, huh?
