Ecdysis is when some animals, like snakes and insects, have to change their skin as they grow. It's like when you outgrow your clothes and need new ones. Animals shed their old skin by peeling it off, revealing a new and fresher skin underneath.
When a snake is about to shed, it might become more irritable or move less because its body is getting ready for the big change. The old skin will usually start to loosen and the snake will find rough surfaces to rub its body against to help it peel off. Insects go through a similar process but their skin is usually shed in one piece, like a peeled banana.
Ecdysis is a really important process because it allows animals to grow and stay healthy. Sometimes, if an animal can't shed properly or frequently enough, it can become sick or even die. So, just like how you need new clothes as you grow, animals need to shed their skin to stay strong and healthy.
