ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Ecliptic

The ecliptic is like a giant invisible circle that wraps around the Earth and the Sun. This circle is like a path that the Sun seems to follow from our view on Earth.

Think of a racetrack, where the Sun is like a race car going around and around on the track. The racetrack is the ecliptic, and the race car is the Sun.

Every planet in our solar system also follows this path, like little cars racing around the same track.

This path is important because it helps astronomers predict where the planets will be in the sky at different times of the year. It also helps us understand why we have seasons on Earth.

So, the ecliptic is basically a big, invisible path that the Sun and all the planets follow, like race cars on a racetrack.
