Economic Community of Central African States

The Economic Community of Central African States, or ECCAS (pronounced "eh-kass"), is a group of countries in the middle part of Africa that have agreed to work together to make their economies stronger. The members of ECCAS are Angola, Burundi, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Republic of the Congo, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, and Sao Tome and Principe.

Imagine you and your friends all have different toys, but you want to share them and play together. You might decide to make a toy box and put all your toys inside, so everyone can use them. That's kind of what ECCAS is doing with their countries' resources and economies. They're putting them all in one big "box" so everyone can benefit.

One of the things that ECCAS does is help these countries trade with each other. That means they can sell things they make, like food, clothes, and electronics, to other countries in ECCAS instead of only to people in their own country. This can make the economy better because more people are buying and selling things.

ECCAS also tries to help these countries work together on things like transportation, communication, and security. For example, they might work on making better roads and bridges so it's easier to travel between countries. They might also work on setting up ways to talk to each other quickly in case of emergencies.

Just like your toy box might have rules about how you share toys, ECCAS has rules for its members to follow. These rules are meant to help the countries work together more effectively and make sure everyone is treated fairly.
