ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Economy of the British Empire

The British Empire was a group of lands and countries that were controlled by the British government. These lands included places in the Americas, Africa, Asia, and other parts of the world. The British government had many people that helped to run the empire, and the British Empire's economy had money (or wealth) coming and going from the different places it controlled. This money came from many things, like the money made from trading and selling goods, taxes on people living in the empire, and even money from things like military protection of the empire's land and people. The money made from the empire was used to help keep the empire running, pay for the people who ran it, and support the citizens of the empire.
