ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Edgar Howard Sturtevant

Edgar Howard Sturtevant was a really smart man who lived a long time ago. He was born on November 22, 1875 in Ohio, USA. He loved learning new things and did really well in school. He studied at a big university called Harvard, where he learned a lot about language and history.

Edgar was especially interested in studying languages, which means learning how people talk and write. He wanted to find out how different languages are related to one another. He learned a lot about ancient languages like Greek, Latin, and Sanskrit, which are languages that people used a long time ago.

Edgar became a professor and taught many students about languages and history. He even wrote books to help people learn more about these subjects. He was very good at explaining things in a way that was easy to understand.

One of Edgar's most important contributions was creating a way to show how different languages are related to one another. He made a big chart that showed how different words in different languages come from the same root word. It was kind of like a giant family tree for words! This chart helped people understand how languages change and develop over time.

Edgar was very respected for his work and won many awards for his achievements. He was also known for being a kind and friendly person who loved to share his knowledge with others. Even though he is no longer alive, his work still helps people understand languages and history better today.
