Edge mill

An edge mill is a machine that does a special job. Imagine that you have a ton of wheat and you want to turn it into flour. You can't just take the wheat and grind it into flour. First, you need to get rid of the husk, which is like a tough shell that protects the wheat. The husk is too tough to turn into flour, so it needs to be removed. An edge mill is a machine that can remove the husk.

Here's how it works: You put the wheat grains into the edge mill, which is like a big jar with a lid that has a handle. You turn the handle, and the mill spins around. Inside the mill, there are two stones that grind against each other. The wheat grains get caught between the stones, and the husk gets scraped off the grain by the edges of the stones. After the grain goes through the edge mill, the husk is gone, and what's left is called the "clean grain."

Now that the husk is gone, you can turn the clean grain into flour. But you can't do that in an edge mill – you need a different machine, like a roller mill, to do that. But the edge mill is an important machine that helps get the wheat ready for the next step.
