Edo Five Routes
Okay kiddo, imagine you're going on an adventure in a really big city called Edo. Edo is a place in Japan a long time ago. There are many people who live in Edo and they all need to get from one place to another.
Now, imagine there are 5 different paths or routes that people can take to get where they need to go. Each route goes to different places in Edo. These are called the "Edo five routes".
People who live in Edo use these routes to buy and sell things, visit friends and family, and do lots of other things too.
Each of these routes have different names and go to different parts of Edo. They are named after the direction they go in. They are called Tokaido, Nakasendo, Koshu Kaido, Oshu Kaido, and Nikko Kaido.
