Egg Throwing Incident (1917)

Okay kiddo, so back in 1917, there was this very important lady named Alice Paul. She was fighting for something called suffrage, which means that women wanted the right to vote, just like men.

One day, she and some of her friends were peacefully protesting outside the White House, which is where the President lives. They were holding signs and chanting, trying to get the attention of the President, who at the time was a man named Woodrow Wilson.

But then something bad happened. Some people who didn't like what Alice and her friends were doing started throwing eggs at them. It wasn't very nice, was it? Alice was hit in the face with an egg, and it wasn't just any egg – it was a raw one, which means it wasn't cooked yet.

Can you imagine what it would be like to have a raw egg thrown at your face? It's pretty yucky and it could hurt quite a bit. But Alice didn't let the egg throwing get in her way. She and her friends kept on protesting and fighting for women's rights, even though it wasn't easy.

Thankfully, Alice and her friends were eventually successful in their cause. Women were given the right to vote in 1920, which means they could have a say in who gets to be President and in other important decisions. So even though the egg throwing incident was a mean thing to do, it didn't stop Alice and her friends from making a positive change in the world.
