Egressive sound

When we make sounds with our mouth, there are two ways that air can come out: ingressive and egressive.

Ingressive sounds are when we breathe air in, like when we sniff or take a deep breath. This is not the type of sound we usually make when we speak, sing, or make other noises.

Egressive sounds, on the other hand, are when we push air out of our mouth. Imagine trying to blow out a candle - that's an example of an egressive sound! Our vocal cords vibrate as air goes past them, creating different pitches and tones. This is how we make most of the sounds we use in language and communication.

Overall, egressive sounds are a very important part of communication and expression, allowing us to express ourselves through speech, song, and other sounds!
