Eigenfunctions

Eigenfunctions are special kinds of functions that have a really important property. When you multiply an eigenfunction by a number, the eigenfunction doesn't change, but the number you multiplied it by gets bigger.

Let's say you have a big house with lots of rooms. Each room has its own special door, and each door has a number on it. Eigenfunctions are like those doors with numbers on them. So if you want to go from one room to another, all you have to do is multiply the number on the door by a bigger number - it won't change which room you go to, but the number will get bigger! You can do this over and over and it will keep making the number bigger and bigger each time.
