ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Elastic artery

An elastic artery is a big tube inside of our body that helps move blood around. It's called "elastic" because it is stretchy like a rubber band.

Inside our body, our heart pumps out blood into these elastic arteries. When our heart pumps blood, it creates a lot of pressure which can be dangerous for our body. But, the elastic arteries are stretchy and can expand to handle the pressure. When the heart pumps blood, the elastic artery stretches and then when the heart stops pumping, the elastic artery goes back to its normal size.

This stretching and relaxing helps to keep the blood flowing smoothly throughout our body. Elastic arteries can be found in places like our aorta, which is the biggest artery in our body carrying blood from the heart to the rest of the body.

Overall, elastic arteries are like strong rubber tubes that help move blood around our body while also keeping us safe from the high pressure that comes with it.
