ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Election silence

Election silence is like a very quiet time before a very big party. During this time, people who want to vote in an election have to be very quiet and not talk about who they want to vote for or try to convince others to vote for someone. This is because the rules say that everyone needs some time to think about who they want to vote for and not be influenced by other people talking to them. So, during election silence, there can't be any campaigning, which means no posters, no ads on TV or radio, and no speeches from candidates. It usually lasts for a day or two before the election day. This quiet time helps to make sure that everyone has a fair chance to decide who they want to vote for without any outside interference.
