ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Electric power

Electric power is like the energy that makes your toys move or turns on the light in your room. You know how you need batteries or rechargeable power for some of your toys to work, right? Similarly, electric power is a type of energy that gets converted into electricity and then we can use it in our homes, schools, hospitals and factories.

Electric power comes from different sources, such as the sun, wind, water, coal, and gas, which we call as fuels. These fuels contain energy, which means they can make things happen, like a car moving or a light bulb shining. When we want to use this energy, we have to convert it into electricity using machines called generators.

So, what is electricity? It is a type of energy that we cannot see or touch but can feel. When we have electricity, we can use it to light up our homes, charge our phones and computers, cook food on an electric stove, and power up machines in factories.

However, we need to be careful with electricity because it can be dangerous if we touch wires or electrical outlets with wet hands or plug in too many devices in one outlet. That is why we should always ask adults for help when dealing with electricity.

In summary, electric power is an invisible energy that we can use to power up our daily lives with the help of machines like generators.
