ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Electric power quality

Electric power quality refers to how well the electricity we use is working. Do you know how sometimes the light in your room can flicker or the TV screen gets fuzzy? That's because there may be an issue with the power quality – the electricity that powers those devices.

Electricity has to be just the right kind of energy to work properly. Just like we need to eat healthy foods and drink enough water to stay healthy, electricity also needs to be "healthy" to power our homes, schools, and businesses.

Issues with power quality can cause problems with our devices or even be dangerous. For example, if the voltage is too high, it can damage our devices. If the frequency is too low, our devices may not work properly.

So, it's important to make sure that the electricity we use is of good quality so that we can use our devices safely and properly. This is done by making sure the power lines and electrical devices are working correctly, and by using special equipment that can monitor and fix any power quality issues.
