Electroactive polymers

So imagine your toys are made of a special material called a polymer. But this isn't just any kind of polymer, it's called an electroactive polymer because it can do something really cool when you put electricity through it.

When you give your toy the right amount of electricity, the polymer starts to change its shape and size! It can stretch and contract just like a muscle. This is because the electricity makes the polymer's molecules move around and rearrange themselves, causing the polymer to move too.

Scientists use electroactive polymers in lots of different ways. They can make artificial muscles that can move and lift things, or they can make materials that can change shape and size on command. They can even use them in medical devices to help people who can't move their own muscles!

So basically, electroactive polymers are like super special polymers that can move and change when you give them electricity. Cool, huh?
