ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Electroforming

Electroforming is like making a magic shell ring for your finger. First, you need a special liquid called electrolyte and a special metal called cathode. Then, you take a mold of the ring you want to make and cover it with a special metal called anode.

Next, you put the mold and the metals in the electrolyte and use special electricity powers to make a reaction happen. The anode metal starts to dissolve and form a special layer on top of the mold! This layer gets thicker and thicker until it's the size and shape of the ring you want.

Once the layer is the right size, you take the metal layer off the mold and—tada!—you have a shiny, new ring that looks like it's made of solid metal. It's like magic!
