Electrophilic substitution

Electrophilic substitution is a type of reaction that happens between molecules. A molecule is like a group of atoms stuck together. In this type of reaction, one of the atoms in a molecule gets replaced by a different atom. To do this, an 'electrophile' (a molecule attracted to electric charges) attaches itself to the original molecule. Usually, an electron leaves the original molecule and attaches to the electrophile. This makes a new molecule that has the new atom in it and the original molecule has been replaced.
