ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Elixir (programming language)

Elixir is a special way of talking to computers. It's like a secret language that grown-ups use to tell computers what to do. When a grown-up tells a computer what to do using Elixir, the computer wants to do that thing really fast.

Think of it like building with different types of Lego blocks. Each kind of block has a different shape and purpose. Elixir is like a special kind of Lego block that you can use to build really cool things. Just like some Lego blocks are better for building houses and others are better for building spaceships, Elixir is better for building certain kinds of things like web applications, games, and chatbots.

Elixir is a new type of Lego block that was invented by a grown-up named José Valim. He wanted to make it easier and faster for people to build really cool things on a computer, like games and websites. So he made Elixir so that people could build things faster and make them work really well.

So when someone is using Elixir to build a website or a game, they can use it to give the computer lots of instructions very quickly. And because the computer can understand Elixir really well, it will do whatever they say with lightning speed.
