ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Elymian language

Elymian language is a way of talking that people used a long, long time ago. It's like if you heard people speaking in a secret code that only they could understand. The Elymians were a group of people who lived in a place called Sicily, which is an island in Italy. They had their own words that they used to talk to each other, and they wrote them down on special stones.

When grown-ups wanted to learn the Elymian language, they would have to go to school and study very hard. They would learn the alphabet, which is a group of letters that you use to make words. Then they would practice putting those letters together to make different words. Just like how you need to know your ABCs before you can read big books, the grown-ups had to learn the Elymian alphabet before they could read and write in the language.

But eventually, the Elymian language started to disappear because fewer and fewer people were using it. It's kind of like when you have a toy that you used to play with all the time, but then you got new toys and you don't play with it as much anymore. So, people started speaking other languages, and the Elymian language became harder and harder to learn.

Today, we can still see some of the words that the Elymians wrote down on special stones, but we don't really know what they mean because not many people can read the language anymore. It's like trying to solve a puzzle without all of the pieces. But some people still try to learn the Elymian language, so maybe one day we can understand it better.
