Endocrinology of reproduction

Endocrinology is the study of how hormones in our body control different functions. Reproduction means to create new life, like having a baby. Our body has several parts, like the brain and the ovaries in girls and the testes in boys, that work together to make babies. These parts release hormones, which are like little messengers that tell the different parts what to do.

In girls, the brain tells the ovaries to release hormones called estrogen and progesterone. These hormones help a girl's body develop physically so she can have babies when she grows up. When a girl gets her period, it means the ovaries are releasing an egg that could meet with sperm from a boy to create a baby.

In boys, the brain tells the testes to make a hormone called testosterone. Testosterone helps a boy's body develop physically so he can have babies when he grows up. When a boy becomes a man, his body can make millions of sperm each day, which can meet with an egg from a girl to create a baby.

All these hormones work together to help our body function properly and create new life.
