An energy level is like a playground where all the kinds of things that make up everything around us, like atoms and molecules, can hang out and move around. Just like you can go up and down a slide or swings in a playground, these tiny things can move around between different energy levels.
Each energy level is like a different part of the playground. When these tiny things have a lot of energy, they can move around to the higher energy levels, just like climbing up a tall slide. And when they don't have as much energy, they stay at the lower levels, like playing on the monkey bars.
The amount of energy that these tiny things have can also change if they absorb or give off energy, like when you spin around really fast and get dizzy (absorbing energy) or when you stop spinning and slow down (giving off energy).
So, energy levels are like the different areas where these tiny things can move around, and they can change levels by gaining or losing energy, just like you can move around different parts of a playground.
