ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

English basement

An English basement is like a special type of room in a house that isn't really in the basement but also isn't really on the main floor. It's kinda like the middle ground between the two! Usually, it's a room that is partially underground, but still has windows and a door that you can use to go outside. It's like if you dug a hole in the ground, but then put a little house on top of it so that it didn't really feel like you were in a hole. People like English basements because they can be used for lots of different things, like a spare bedroom or even a little apartment for someone to live in.
