Okay kiddo, you know how people all over the world speak different languages? Well, in different parts of the United States, people also sometimes speak different kinds of English.
One place where that's the case is in a state called New Mexico. There, some people speak a kind of English that's mixed with Spanish.
You might be wondering why that is. It all goes back to a long time ago, when New Mexico was a part of Mexico instead of the United States. When the United States took control of New Mexico, lots of Spanish-speaking people were already living there. So, even though English became more common, many people in New Mexico still grew up speaking both English and Spanish.
Today, you can still hear this mix of English and Spanish in some parts of New Mexico. It's especially common in the northern part of the state, in places like Santa Fe and Taos. But even if you don't speak this kind of English, don't worry - people in New Mexico are very welcoming and will be happy to talk to you in whatever language you're most comfortable with!
