Environmental effects of mining

Mining is when people dig into the ground to take out valuable materials like coal and minerals. All this digging into the ground can have bad effects on our environment. Mining can harm the land and the water around it by making it harder to grow plants, and by polluting the water with chemicals. Mining can also make it harder for animals to find food and shelter. All of this can change how an area looks and make it harder for animals and plants to survive.
