Environmental impact of mining

Mining is when people dig huge holes and tunnels underground or in the ocean to get valuable things like coal, gold, or oil. But mining can have a big negative effect on the environment. It can cause air, water, and land pollution, and it can use up a lot of energy and natural resources. For example, mining for coal can release lots of dust and toxic chemicals into the air and water, which people breathe and drink. It can also damage plants and animals that live nearby. Mining also uses a lot of energy and it can take away resources like soil, trees, and minerals that are important for plants, animals, and people.
