War harms the environment in many different ways. For example, military forces use a lot of resources like fuel, food, and ammunition, which takes away from the amount available to everyone else. Additionally, during warfare a lot of land is damaged, including trees being cut down, buildings destroyed, and wetlands destroyed. Pollutants like smoke, dust, and debris are released into the air, water, and soil during battle, which can harm plants, animals, and people. Explosions from weapons can cause earthquakes and landslides. Lastly, wars displace people, animals, and plants from their homes, making it harder for them to survive. In summary, wars are terrible for the environment, because they damage the land, pollute the air and water, and push animals and people out of their homes.
