ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Environmental sensitivity

Environmental sensitivity is when someone is easily affected or impacted by things in the world around them. Just like how some kids get really scared during a thunderstorm or really excited when a puppy comes to play with them, some people are more sensitive to things like noise, smells, and textures.

For example, some people might get really uncomfortable and start sneezing when they're around strong smells like perfume or smoke. Others might feel really anxious or stressed out in crowded or noisy places.

Being environmentally sensitive can also mean that someone has a lot of empathy and emotional awareness. They might be able to pick up on other people's moods and feelings easily, or be really affected by movies or books that are sad or scary.

Just like how we all have different likes and dislikes when it comes to food and activities, there's nothing wrong with being environmentally sensitive. It's just a natural part of who we are as individuals. The important thing is to take care of ourselves and find ways to cope with any discomfort or challenges that come up.
