Epistemological rupture

Okay kiddo, so epistemological rupture is a big and fancy way of saying that people's understanding of how they know things changes. Imagine you have never seen a cat before but someone shows you a picture of one and tells you that it's a cat. You believe them because they seem trustworthy and you have no reason to doubt them.

But then, one day you see a real cat in person and it doesn't look anything like the picture you saw. Suddenly, you start questioning whether or not that first person really knew what they were talking about. That's an epistemological rupture- it's when your previous beliefs or way of understanding something is shattered by new information or experiences.

It can be a bit scary or confusing at first, but it's also an important part of growing and learning. As we encounter new things and ideas, our understanding of the world around us can change and evolve.
