Okay, so imagine you're playing with your toys in your room and suddenly it starts to rain really hard. The rain keeps coming and coming and soon your room starts to fill up with water! This is what we call a flood.
A long time ago, way before you were born, there was a time period where there were lots of floods happening all around the world. This time period is called the epoch of extreme inundations. It was a time when the Earth experienced frequent and severe flooding.
The reason for all the flooding is because there were lots of changes happening in the Earth's environment. There were big shifts in weather patterns, sea levels, and climates. All of these changes caused the water in the oceans and rivers to rise up and overflow onto the land.
During this epoch, many animals and plants had to adapt to survive the frequent floods. Some animals learned to swim better or found higher ground to escape the rising waters. Plants that lived in areas that were frequently flooded learned to grow taller, so they wouldn't drown.
The epoch of extreme inundations lasted for a long time, but eventually, the Earth started to settle down and the floods became less severe. Today, floods still happen, but they are not as frequent or severe as they were during the epoch of extreme inundations.
