Okay kiddo, so you know how there are boys and girls and adults who work and make money right? Well, sometimes people don't get paid the same just because they are a boy or a girl or because they look different, even though they might do the same work.
Now that's not very fair, is it? That's why, in 1970, some grown-ups made a law called the "Equal Pay Act." This law says that boys and girls, and men and women, have to be paid the same amount of money if they are doing the same job.
So, for example, if a boy and a girl work in a store and they both do the same job, like stacking shelves or ringing up customers, they have to get paid the same amount of money for doing that job. Even if the girl has longer hair and wears a dress and the boy has short hair and wears pants, they still have to get paid the same.
This law helps to make things fair, so that everyone can have an equal chance to earn money and be treated equally. That's what the Equal Pay Act is all about - making sure that boys and girls, and men and women, get paid the same amount of money for doing the same job.
