Equiareal map

An equiareal map is a special kind of map that tries to show the Earth in a way that keeps all the areas on the map proportional to their actual size on the Earth. This means that if you looked at a certain part of the map and then looked at that same area on the Earth, they would be the same size.

Think of it like a big balloon that represents the Earth. If you drew a picture on the balloon and then tried to flatten it out into a map, it would be really difficult to keep all the sizes of the different areas the same. But if you made sure to stretch the balloon evenly in all directions before flattening it, you could get a map that would come pretty close to showing the Earth accurately.

This is important because some other types of maps can make certain places look bigger or smaller than they really are, which can be misleading. With an equiareal map, you can be more confident that what you're seeing is a good representation of the Earth's actual geography.
