Ernest Cormier

Ernest Cormier was a very talented architect from Canada. Architects are people who design buildings and make them look beautiful. Ernest Cormier designed many important buildings in his career, and people still admire his work today.

When Ernest Cormier was a little older than you, he went to school to learn about architecture. He learned all kinds of things, like how to draw and make models of buildings. He also learned about math and science, because architects need to use those subjects when they design buildings.

One of Ernest Cormier's most famous buildings is the Supreme Court of Canada in Ottawa. This is a very important building where judges make important decisions about the law. Ernest Cormier had to think very carefully to design the Supreme Court so that it would look very grand and important. He used a special kind of stone called limestone to make it look nice and strong. He also made sure the inside of the building had lots of beautiful art and details, like sculptures and paintings.

Ernest Cormier also designed the Canada Pavilion for the 1939 World's Fair in New York. A World's Fair is a very big event where countries from all over the world show off their best inventions and ideas. Ernest Cormier's design for the Canada Pavilion was very special because it showed off Canada's beautiful landscapes and culture. It had a big tower and lots of big windows so people could see inside and learn about Canada.

In addition to his important buildings, Ernest Cormier also designed many other things to make our cities better. He designed bridges, which help us cross over rivers and valleys. He also designed water treatment plants, which help clean our drinking water and keep us healthy. Ernest Cormier used his knowledge of engineering (which is using math and science to build things) to make these things work well and last a long time.

Ernest Cormier was a very talented and important architect in Canada. He used his creativity and knowledge to design beautiful buildings and make our cities better. Even though he lived a long time ago, people still admire his work today.
