ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Errors in early word use

When you are a little kid just starting to learn how to talk, sometimes you make mistakes when you are trying to say words. This is because your brain is still figuring out how to use all of the different sounds in language properly.

For example, you might try to say "banana" but it comes out sounding like "nana". Or you might try to say "dog" but it comes out as "gog".

These mistakes are very normal and happen to lots of kids when they are first learning to talk. As you practice more and listen to the people around you talking, your brain starts to get better at using all of the different sounds and putting them together correctly to make words.

So don't worry if you make mistakes with your words at first - it's all part of the learning process!
