Eurasian Steppe

The Eurasian steppe is like a big, grassy plain that stretches across a big part of Europe and Asia. Imagine a huge carpet of grass that goes on and on, as far as you can see. The steppe is home to lots of different animals, like wild horses, bison, and antelope. It's also home to people, who have been living there for thousands of years.

In the past, people who lived on the steppe were known as nomads. That means they didn't live in one place all the time, but moved around with their animals, like cows and sheep, to find good places to graze. They lived in tents called yurts, which were easy to move.

Nomadic people on the steppe were known for being skilled horse riders. They used their horses to hunt, herd animals, and also for war. Some of the nomads became very powerful and formed empires. One notable empire was the Mongol Empire, which was led by Genghis Khan. The Mongols were feared warriors who conquered huge amounts of land and controlled a large part of Asia and Europe.

The steppe also acted as a highway for trade between different parts of the world. People would travel along the steppe with their goods, like silk and spices, selling them to other people they met along the way. The trade helped to bring new ideas and technologies to the nomadic people of the steppe.

Today, the Eurasian steppe is still an important area for agriculture and grazing. Many people still live as nomads or semi-nomads, raising animals and moving around with them. The steppe is also an important ecosystem, providing a home for many different species of plants and animals.
