ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

European Union–United Kingdom relations

Okay kiddo, so you know how sometimes people work together to make things better for everybody? That's what the European Union is! Lots of countries in Europe decided to work together to help each other out, like sharing money and goods, and making rules that everyone agrees to follow.

The United Kingdom (which includes England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland) used to be part of this group too, but in 2016 the adults in the UK decided they wanted to leave. This was called "Brexit" and it took a few years to figure out how to do it.

Now that the UK is no longer in the European Union, they have to make new rules for how to work and trade with the other countries in Europe. This can be tricky, because they used to have really close relationships and now they have to figure out new ways to get along.

Some people think it's a good thing that the UK left because they can make their own decisions now, but others think it's bad because it might hurt their economy or make it harder to travel and live in different countries. It's all still a work in progress, but hopefully they can find a way to be friends and work together even though they're not in the same group anymore.
